2023 Pie & AI Ambassador Spotlight: Tarun R Jain, Bengaluru

Pie & AI Ambassador Spotlight: Tarun R Jain, Bengaluru, India. "I started my journey in Machine Learning and Deep Learning with Professor Andrew Ng’s Coursera courses. Without these courses, I would probably have zero knowledge in this field. Being a part of this community allowed me to access valuable resources and courses. It also provided a supportive network of peers who shared my passion for AI. As I continued to learn and grow, I found myself increasingly engaged in organizing events, workshops, and discussions to help others navigate the complexities of deep learning."

Pie & AI is a series of events organized by DeepLearning.AI, a global community aimed at fostering knowledge sharing and collaboration in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML). These events are typically informal gatherings where attendees can network, learn, and engage with others who share a passion for AI, ML, and related technologies.

Why did you join the DeepLearning.AI community as an event ambassador?

I joined because I was captivated by the incredible potential of deep learning and artificial intelligence. I started my journey in Machine Learning and Deep Learning with Professor Andrew Ng’s Coursera courses. Without these courses, I would probably have zero knowledge in this field. Being a part of this community allowed me to access valuable resources and courses. It also provided a supportive network of peers who shared my passion for AI. As I continued to learn and grow, I found myself increasingly engaged in organizing events, workshops, and discussions to help others navigate the complexities of deep learning. Since DeepLearning.AI provides an Event Ambassador opportunity, I wanted to organize the events and give back to the community. Above all, it’s an opportunity to grow and learn.

What do you do when you are not hosting events with DeepLearning.AI

I work as a DevRel & Community Manager at AI Planet, a Belgium-based AI Startup. I love contributing to open-source projects and building solutions to help small businesses. I am also part of Google Summer of Code 2023 at caMicroscope (a toolkit for cancer imaging research). I spend my free time watching anime and reading Manga.

Describe a few highlights from your event ambassador experience.

I like getting feedback from the DeepLearning.AI team. I have organized more than 10+ Pie & AI Bangalore events both online and in-person. These events covered a wide range of topics, from introductory sessions for beginners to more advanced deep learning concepts.

One key highlight was my inaugural event, where I facilitated a session on “Getting Started with Deep Learning Frameworks-TensorFlow.” It was immensely rewarding to witness the enthusiasm of my classmates and other participants as they embarked on their deep learning journey. It became evident that a hands-on approach was the most effective way to convey complex concepts.

What have you leared/gained since joining the DeepLearning.AI community?

Through organizing events and interacting with experts and enthusiasts in the community, I had the opportunity to explore the intricacies of Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) and delve into the world of Machine Learning Operations (MLOps). This learning experience not only enriched my understanding of these advanced AI concepts but also honed my skills in explaining complex topics to others.

What are some predictions you have for the AI community in the next year?

I have been following Large Language Models for quite some time. New fine tuned models are advancing rapidly. I personally feel this will impact various industries such as healthcare, finance, and autonomous vehicles. More practical and real-world AI applications are likely to emerge. I would love to see what is next in LLMs and Multimodals. I am planning to launch a GenAI Bootcamp in November or next year for sure.
