2023 Pie & AI Ambassador Spotlight: Dmitriy Starson, Menlo Park

Pie&AI Ambassador from Menlo Park, U.S. Dmitriy Starson

Pie & AI is a series of events organized by DeepLearning.AI, a global community aimed at fostering knowledge sharing and collaboration in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML). These events are typically informal gatherings where attendees can network, learn, and engage with others who share a passion for AI, ML, and related technologies.

Why did you join the DeepLearning.AI community as an event ambassador?

We are an AI company and share DeepLearning.AI’s mission. Our vision is to improve billions of lives with the power of AI. We are focused on creating AI tools that empower developers and companies to build a better world. The DeepLearning.AI community helps developers around the world gain AI knowledge and resources required to build life-changing AI solutions. As an Ambassador, I am excited to collaborate with Deeplearning.AI to advance our joint efforts.

What do you do when you are not hosting events with DeepLearning.AI

We are building AI modules that address real world issues ranging from healthcare and nutrition to inspection of infrastructure and sales of paints and home products. We are also building an AI platform that enables developers and companies to rapidly build their own AI modules and AI/AR-powered applications.

Describe a few highlights from your event ambassador experience.

We hosted an AI developer day at SRI International featuring a keynote by Danny Lange (Head of AI at Unity). We also had a number of panels with Dr. Yaron Hadad, Dr. Konstantin Batygin, Dr. Karen Myers, and Konstantine Buhler from Sequoia Capital. In all, we hosted about a dozen events and participated in many others.

Here are a few of the key highlights: (a) we co-hosted a joint panel with DeepLearning.AI focused on using AI for Good; (b) we participated in in-person events at DeepLearning.AI offices in Palo Alto (meeting Andrew and the team was a big highlight); (c) we met with many other ambassadors during virtual ambassador events organized by DeepLearning.AI.

What have you learned/gained since joining the DeepLearning.AI community?

First, we connected with many excited ambassadors and several DeepLearning.AI team members. We hope to do more! Our joint events with DeepLearning.AI resulted in many new engagements for Passio.ai and led to exciting customer discussions and partner collaborations. We are also deeply grateful for DeepLearning.AI’s support in organizing the AI for Good Panel at Passio’s first Developer Day at SRI International. Finally, being an ambassador keeps Andrew’s courses at the top of mind for our team, and these courses bring us enormous value. We look forward to the Mobile AI course we co-created together with the DeepLearning.AI team.

What are some predictions you have for the AI community in the next year?

As AI technologies become more integrated into various aspects of society, discussions around ethics, bias, transparency, and responsible AI deployment will continue to be important. The AI community will likely focus on developing guidelines and frameworks to address these concerns.

It is hard to predict; it really depends on DeepLearning.AI. However, we are extremely excited to support and grow the community. I would volunteer to moderate & grow a Discord channel, co-organize and provide space for in-person events in Menlo Park, co-organize workshops focused on mobile AI, organize online community events, and more. If there is support from DeepLearning.AI, we would be excited to help grow the community!

Additional thoughts?

We look forward to building and growing an amazing community to use AI to solve some of the world’s most challenging problems. We are grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the Ambassador community. Please do more in-person events; we would be excited to help with getting an amazing space in Menlo Park.
